I’ve been in my new home for about 2 months now, and while I’d love to say that everything is complete, painted, decorated…well, it’s not. There is still the unpacked guest room/sewing room, a half-painted dining room, and a living room that is the world’s fanciest tool chest. All this painting, fixing, and decorating has been great, but it’s also left me feeling creatively unfulfilled. While talking with Danielle it became abundantly clear that I needed a creative jumpstart, and what’s a better jumpstart than a new One Creative Week challenge?!
This time, I got to choose the medium, and let me tell you – it was tricky! I was contemplating embroidery but didn’t want to add another trip to a store (or truthfully, to spend more money) to purchase supplies. I thought about doing mini-paintings, but wanted something a bit more fluid, that I could do on a whim, between the busy moments (and these days, they all seem busy – or rather, full.) Finally, it came to me:
I haven’t picked up my “real” camera in months. It has been tucked away in a closet since we moved. I’ve been wanting to pull it out to capture our transformation, our new home, my growing littles, but it keeps falling to the bottom of my to-do list. And ultimately, sliding off the list entirely.
I like that photography is something pretty much everyone can do. Whether you are using your phone, your digital camera, or even tried-and-true film, it’s a challenge we can all get behind! Plus, I think photography skills seem to be something nearly all of us would like to improve.
Have I convinced you to join yet? It will be fun, I promise. After all, the whole purpose of One Creative Week is to collaboratively get out of our creative ruts – to try your hand at something new, or dive deeper into a medium you already know and love.
Here are the details: One Creative Week is a completely free (including ad-free) challenge – we do it because we love creating with other folks, that’s it! We will be starting Monday, March 14th. The main prompts will be Monday through Friday, with two more “extra credit” prompts over the following weekend. We will be sharing our work over on Facebook and Instagram with the hashtag #onecreativeweek and invite you to do the same if you’d like (though it’s certainly not required!)
So what do you say, are you with me? Want to come along on this brief creative journey into photography? I’m eager to dust off my camera and stretch my creative muscles once again, but I know that this challenge isn’t for everyone. So if you ARE interested, go ahead and sign up below. You will be added to a special One Creative Week list – a list dedicated only to the challenge and nothing else (meaning, you won’t continue receiving random off-topic emails once the challenge is complete.) If you signed up for OCW in the past, you’re already on the list and don’t need to do anything else. Danielle and I can’t wait for you to join us!!
This was originally announced in our Inspiration for Creative Families weekly email. You can sign up here for authentic inspiration and tools for the whole creative family – it’s our very favorite place to connect!
